AmChamps - Young Leaders in Change is AmCham Serbia’s landmark professional development program, launched in early 2014 as a showcase model on how academia and corporate sector should work together with aim to develop people who will be leading the business community in Serbia.

  • mentorship
  • opportunity for exchanging ideas, experience, dialogue and networking with business society in Serbia and experts.
  • gaining practical knowledge and skills, essentials for further professional development
  • MBA and Master Program at University of Sheffield
  • AmChamps certificate

AmChamps 2019 will gather 40 participants – 20 students & 20 young managers from AmCham member companies. Students are III & IV year of undergraduate studies or enrolled in master studies at the state Universities in Serbia and have up to 25 years. AmCham members are young and mid-managers between 29 and 37 years.

At a special speed dating event at the beginning of the program, students and young managers are matched up with one another in pairs based on brief speed dating, with the managers acting as mentors to the students. Throughout the program participants work on assignments and projects, either in their pairs or as part of larger teams, developing together their mentoring relationships.

The program is comprised of three parts – learning curve (regular part), case study (semi-finals) and project assignment (finals).

Regular part – learning curve

The regular part, or the learning curve) consists of a series of lectures, workshops and extracurricular activities during which participants gain new knowledge and professional experience aimed at perfecting business skills, stimulating creative thinking and self-confidence. In parallel, they are working together in pairs, developing mentoring and leadership. During this period, managers have obligation to provide students, their mentees, with an internship opportunity in their companies, of a minimum two working weeks, to get acquainted with the company at the first hand. Participants collect points for different activities, and ten pairs who get the highest scores progress into the next phase – semifinals. Upon completion of the regular part of the program, participants receive certificates of successful completion of the AmChamps, if they were present at minimum 70% of the planned activities.

Semi-finals – case study

The ten pairs are given a case study by Coca-Cola Hellenic to work on over summer. They then present their results at the semifinals event, in September.

In addition, students get internships in AmCham member companies (at least one month) while managers have an opportunity to attend career coaching sessions with a special consultant.

Finals – project assignment

The three pairs who perform best in semi-finals move on to the finals, where, mentored by AmCham Board members, they develop special projects provided by the CEOs/GMs of the companies which have delegated managers. Each pair thus works on a real company-specific project. The pair that completes the assignment most successfully is pronounced the AmChamps 2019 winner at the special event celebrating the end of the program.
