AmCham Members Success Stories

For the fifth consecutive year, Vip is providing 20 scholars from state universities in Serbia with the opportunity to acquire new skills in the area of telecommunications.

Belgrade, May 8 2012– At a formal event held at Vip Mobile’s premises, the best 20 participants in the “Be a Vip student” corporate social responsibility project were acknowledged and congratulated by State Secretary for the Digital Agenda, Jasna Matić, faculty deans, and members of Vip Mobile’s managing board. Winners received the following prizes: a two-month paid summer internship at Vip Mobile, a notebook computer and a smart phone with a Vip prepaid SIM containing 15.000 dinars credit, as well as two educational seminars and a lecture delivered by an expert from the Telecom Austria Group, alongside continuous mentoring from a Vip manager during the internship and their further education.

Students from the following faculties were awarded Vip scholarships: five students from the Faculty of Organizational Sciences, four students from the School of Electrical Engineering, three students from the Faculty of Economics in Belgrade, two students from the Faculty of Economics in Novi Sad and one student each from the Faculty of Transport and Traffic Engineering in Belgrade, the Faculty of Economics in Kragujevac, the Faculty of Technical Sciences and the Faculty of Sciences in Novi Sad, as well as one student each from the Faculty of Electronic Engineering and the Faculty of Economics in Niš.

The State Secretary for the Digital Agenda Jasna Matić pointed out that an internship at Vip Mobile is an opportunity for the students to apply previously acquired theoretical knowledge and to gain hands-on experience through a thorough mentorship program. “The ‘Be a Vip student’ project has had our support since the very beginning, as it gives students chance to experience how a large real world company operates,” said the State Secretary.

“It gives us great pleasure to be able to provide ambitious young people with practical knowledge and professional experience in the area of telecommunications for the fifth year in a row. We have had the chance to meet very talented interns in previous years, and 12 of them even got jobs at Vip,” pointed out the President of the Managing Board of Vip Mobile, Thanasis Katsiroumpas, adding that an internship with a company such as Vip Mobile represents a first step towards employment, since employers today usually require candidates for employment to have work experience as well as higher education.

About the “Be a Vip Student” project

In November 2007, Vip initiated “Be a Vip Student”, one of the largest long term CSR projects in the area of high education, dedicated to the development of future telecommunications experts in Serbia. The program is officially supported by the Department for the Digital Agenda at the Ministry of Culture, Media and Information Society, and by participating universities and faculties in Belgrade, Novi Sad, Niš and Kragujevac, as well as numerous students` organisations. The project provides a unique synergy of theoretical and practical knowledge in the area of telecommunications, and transmits the expertise and knowledge that Vip possesses as a member of Telekom Austria Group, while at the same time creating qualified young experts who can be easily incorporated into the company`s business processes. Of 77 students who won scholarships in the last four years, 12 are now employed by Vip.
