HR Forum: The Power of Women in the Business Community

Three successful women from AmCham member companies closed this year's work of the HR Forum with an inspirational interview on the empowerment of women in the business sector and the challenges and opportunities they encountered during their careers.

At the last meeting of HR Forum in 2017, Jelena Ristić, Country Manager Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro at Mastercard, Nataša Nikolić, EMEIA Entrepreneurial Winning Women Program Lead at Ernst & Young and Tamara Milovanović, CFO of Philip Morris International took part. The panel was moderated by Tijana Tadić, HR Director at Law Firm Karanović & Nikolić and Chair of the HR Forum.

The inspirational talks began with Jelena Ristić, who talked about the beginnings of her career in the banking sector and the challenges she encountered. As she pointed out, the most difficult thing she faced was the fact that at that time the banking sector was reserved exclusively for men and women had few opportunities to be in leadership positions. However, she built a successful career in this sector because of her strong will and ambition to participate in increasing the Mastercard market share in the Serbian market. Jelena also pointed out that the Mastercard company policy is to implement gender equality, and as an example said that the vice president of the company is a woman who actively advocates and supports the development and promotion of women in managerial positions.

Nataša Nikolić spoke about her career path and successful synergy between a strong entrepreneurial spirit and a corporate career. She pointed out that it is important to have a strong position and driving energy if you want to improve yourself and your team. She also stressed the need to get out of one's comfort zone if you want to move forward in your career and the team in which we work, if we don’t want to someday be redundant in the business world. Another important characteristic of a successful career, she said is building good internal relations within the company,

A review of her career development was given by Tamara Milovanović, who began her career in investment banking, and then continued with Philip Morris. Tamara said that it is necessary to always look for new opportunities and to take advantage of what is being offered. Bearing in mind that the tobacco industry is being strongly and boldly transformed, and that the traditional sectors of sales and marketing reform, their employees also need to improve their skills and demonstrate their knowledge, that supports this transformation.
