Rio Tinto has made donations to local Red Cross centres in the two Serbian cities
Rio Tinto’s donation was divided equally between the Belgrade and Loznica Red Cross organisations. The money was used to purchase aid parcels containing basic foodstuffs and hygiene products for distribution to vulnerable groups in the two cities.
‘We are witnessing this unprecedented global coronavirus pandemic and deeply sympathise with all those who have been directly affected. Many of our business partners and members of the communities we work in are playing a vital role in combating the spread of the disease. Our company has long-standing ties with all partners and local residents, so we wanted to deliver assistance quickly in these difficult times’, said Marnie Finlayson, General Manager of Rio Tinto’s Serbian subsidiary.
In addition to this donation, Rio Tinto has waived the Serbian Government’s Covid-19 aid package for businesses amounting to EUR 50,000.
